Dex metatomanine has a sedative, hypnotic effect that is through the alpha two receptor in both the brain and the spinal cord. It's also been thought to reduce rates of delirium. Could potentially be able to treat delirium in the i c u. Can post op narcotic requirements by up to 50 % with patients who remain on an infusion.
