Russia's Coercive Threat
The conflict in part is a kind of news or at least it's raising some kind of awareness. Putin and the leaders around him, they have goals and they thought that the best way to achieve these goals was to invade their neighbor. The West also miscalculated because whatever we thought we were doing in order to deter Putin wasn't sufficient to deter Putin.
