The Role of Melatonin in the Central Clock

These cells are important to rapidly reducing melatonin production and shifting the time of your body's clock. They also influence brain regions that are involved in things like mood and cognition. As humans, we can see wavelengths between about 380 and 780 nanometers. These intrinsically photosensitive cells contain a photo pigment named melanopsin which maximally absorbs photons with wavelengths of about 480 nanometers.
