There are increasing reports of mass russian atrocities on the ground in ukraine. The more this feels like a situation where we have no moral choice but to get more deeply involved, i worry that logic of intervention becomes overwhelming. I hate nuclear weapons because they are indiscriminate and they murder people in the most terrific ways. They also create an inescapable geo political logic, which is, no matter how much you hate the other country with nuclear weapons, you suddenly have a shared interest in mutual survival. And so what that almost always means, more than often, is that when you enter into a mutual deterrent relationship, you are giving up your ability to do things about horrible way those countries
