If you're offering suggestions, it just shows that you've gotten an understanding of what it is that they're talking about and how they can better go about solving that problem. I think that's definitely a really good tool to win them over. It kind of creates a collaborative environment right off the bat, which is great. Because then your two allies that are striving together to solve this common problem rather than somebody who wants to engage.
