Seneca's Metaphor of the Slave Owner

Epictetus was born a slave but eventually received his freedom. He came to enjoy the trappings of the good life, or at least the stoic version of it. We should constantly question what we own, why we own it, and whether we could go without it. Get rid of your stuff. For property is poverty and fear. Only to have possessed something means carefree ownership.
