What Is a Trademark?

A trademark is a source identifier, meaning that it identifies the source of goods or services. So if you see a Nike logo on a shoe box, you know that the shoes in there were made by Nike Inc. A trademark is meant to identify what company is behind whatever product or services being offered. trademarks and trademark law exist to protect the consumer, not the business owner.
