The Effects of Down Regulation on Insulin Levels

The number of receptors for insulin on the cells that need glucose, are actually reduced in this process because the signal is too loud. Over time, what happens is, you reduce that so much that it becomes kind of stabilized within the cells and they're now not responding to the glucose signal as they should. So we call this a positive feedback effect, and those are never work out well with the exception of ovulation, where things explode or fail in positive feedback effect.
