When your body is going into sleep mode, it's best when everything is timed according to circadian rhythm to not be going into eat mode. For people who have gastroesophageal reflux disease, eating too close to bedtime can cause a whole host of issues. Caffin alcohol impairs that reflex and also in those with sleep apnea could drop oxygen levels even lower before the airway is open.
