Therapists Overestimate Their Outcomes, Which Is Toxic
Therapists overestimate just how effective they really are by about 65%. We have an illusory superiority by us that makes us think we're much better than we are. It actually serves a benefit to therapis believing that we're effective is critical to staying in the field and not burning out. At the same time, it's toxic for actually getting better at our craft which would ultimately reduce burnout if we could stick at what it takes to become better long enough.
