Authentic Assessments Aren't Always Conjoined
The two connotations of authenticity aren't necessarily always conjoined. I can give you a quick example, if you wish. So, I worked with some mathematics teachers on designing quote authentic assessments. They were given the blueprint and specs for a basement in a home that was unfinished. The problem when this teachers gave it to the students was the kids didn't know what drywall was. And so while it was rich and authentic mathematically, it didn't engage most students,. except for the compliant ones.
