CHAPTER

Can I Infer Deteministic Causal Relationships?

Alice and i are fascinated by children's ability to infer causal relationships. We've been having this big debate about, do they think that causal relations are intrinsically deterministic, or do they think at they could also be probablistic? And in a physical system, if they see that something works, like four out of eight times, they think that there's something else that's keeping from working those other four times. They can make these kind of statistical inferences with very young kids. That might be really important for an agent who is trying to determine whether it's deterministic or not.
