Why Is This Happening to Me?

We have this tendency to think that things aren't going to happen to us. I think a areaction when something happens is, why is this happening to me? What did i do to deserve this?" We go through it without ever expecting to encounter any surprises. And the first noble truth is about understanding that these surprises are going to certainly come, we just don't know when. Simply knowing that suffering is universal, it's not something that's personal, there's not some form of cosmic justice that's taking place can ease a tremendous amount of suffering.
