Facebook wants us all to believe that the problems with information disorder are related to the practices of everyday people. When we get information from Facebook whistleblowers, we learn how Facebook has changed its algorithm over the years. So you actually see less of your friends and family and more of conversations that incite anger and passion and vitriol because they want to keep you on the platform longer. Now, that is a business choice. They have created by design information flows on their platform. If there was an actual accountability, if there was rules and fines at the scale that would be meaningful, I bet you Facebook would fix the problem Because they would be incentivized to fix the problem.
