Breakpoints

CHAPTER

Oral Beta Lactams for Diabetic Foot Infections

The last iteration of the diabetic foot infection guidelines, granted this was last updated in 2012, oral beta lactams are options for mild infections. But for moderate or severe infections, oral Beta Lactams are no longer considered and that's where IV therapy is recommended. From a PKPD standpoint, I feel pretty good about beta lactams there. The MIC is to strep versus a moxocellin and sublaxin are quite low. Lower than we see with staphylococcus species,. And so I feel a little bit more comfortable there. Probably best we don't go down at this time.
