I think that's a way of stating the narrative we have now at home. The whole class of people who used to be the given as the Norman Rockwell dominant culture in this country are not so much looking back nostalgicly at a thousand years ago, but they're sure looking back to 1950 or whatever. It is a very scary mindset to think that things used to be a whole lot better and something really crummy and unfair was done by some them that is brought about the present state instead. This is implications for how we act. If your plan is to prefer to be feared and loved or to dominate unilaterally rather than be cooperative and reciprocal or whatever, you're absolutely going to build up
