The Rise and Fall of Worth
Worth worked in conjunction with France's textile industry to develop new products, including satin. He coerced Empress Eugenie into wearing more silks produced in the nation's silk weaving epicenter of Lyon. By 1872, the number of operating looms in Lyon more than doubled. This restored the region to a glory not seen since before the French Revolution.
