The Power of Dissociation in Trauma
The capacity to dissociate is protective during trauma. The problem is it can go on uncontrolled after the trauma is over and then become part of the PTSD. I like to think of it like psychological scar tissue. It's useful in the short term to plug the wound, but it's problematic in the long term as scar tissue tends to be when it is in your organs causes problems.
