How to Get Back to Sleep
Don't stay in bed if you have been awake for longer than 20 minutes. Keep it dim, turn down the lights and use black out curtains before going to sleep. Avoid katine afternoon and avoid alcohol in the evenings. Alcohol is a class of drugs that we call the sedative hypnotics. And sedation is not sleep. It's blocking your dream sleep, which is essential for mental and emotional health. Removing those chemicals would be one way of getting back to sleep.
