The Role of Externality in Existential Risk
As long as the CEO has like, I 100% don't want to die, does it really matter that they don't also internalize like other people dying and stuff? Yeah. So basically the key thing is doing the risky action doesn't flip the risk from 0 to 100 percent that you die. It flips the risk by some bounded finite amount, expected amount. And there can be cases in which the gains to you are large enough from your perspective that you're willing to pay that risk.
