Is There a Sweetener in Your Mouth?

It's not the sweetness that gets detected but it's the actual carbohydrate that gets detected. So if you had a carbohydrate that was not sweet it will have the same effect. We just wonder what is actually being sensed where those receptors are sensors and then additionally that something that does taste sweet but actually doesn't have a caloric content like a fake sweetener wouldn't have the surface of this effect. I think we may not have found all the all the taste receptors yet or we haven't quite discovered how they work yet.
