Dr Katie Vincent is senior pain fellow at the Nuffield Department of Women's and Reproductive Health at the University of Oxford. Between 30 to 50% of women have painful periods that are bad enough to disrupt their life. Prostaglandins are common pain mediator, and they're certainly one of the things that is increased around the time of your period.
