Feeling Tone
Everything that passes through mind and body has a feeling tone, whether we notice it or not. With practice, each tiny moment of thought or sensation can be discovered to be pleasant, unpleasant, or neither one or the other. The positive or negative gut feeling of a moment may well be at or near the very source of model construction. It certainly is one of the oldest evolutionary requirements for life. Even a single celled creature needs to be sensitive to nourishment and toxiciy. So over a whole lifetime, we experience millions of pleasant and unpleasant moments. And these can become associated with each otherting with other things to which they don't belong.
