The Divide and Conquer Strategy

In any system of oppression the oppressor is always a minority they're always a smaller group we can see this in capitalism right most people are not capitalist. In order to maintain their power if they need to keep those that they oppressed and exploit divided and division can take many forms. The first form that Freer talks about is focalization whereby a problem is understood in an isolated and cut off way. Another way that the oppressors may attempt to divide and rule is through the distortion of class struggle rather than acknowledge that unity among the working class can only come through struggle against the owning class. This strategy also involves the elite claiming to defend the people from supposed rabble rousers and troublemakers
