Langton's Role in the Barons' Negotiation
There's a bit of debate about Langton's role. I mean, one is that he is simply a broker between the two sides. He gets a very good deal for the church. Of course, he inserted that clause for the church,. But there's a wider idea that that the charter is not just a selfish, brokinal document but reaches out to a much wider constituency. It looks as if this negotiation had been going on since the winter of 2014. The barons is 10th of June, and Magna Cartes is 15th.
