The Difference Between Guilt and Shame

Guilt is a very, very powerful and very important emotion. It's one of what psychologists call the social emotions. People who are filled with shame are more likely to reoffend because there's almost a sense of I'm a bad person no matter what I do. Guilt, it's targeted at a very specific behavior. And it's something that the child can choose then not to do again. Shame is when we send a message to the child that you are wrong. You've done this thing says something about who you are as an individual. The line has to be in that it's okay to feel like getting rid of your sister, but I'm here to stop you from
