Aristotle's ethics seems to be all about my own personal flourishing and excellence. But isn't it also, well, a little selfish? What if my friends and family get in the way of my excellence? Of course, aristotle has said that no one can be happy without friends and family. And perhaps i need them around to exercise some of my virtues like generosity and loyalty. But surely these are the wrong reasons to value my loved ones. I should be keeping them around for my own benefit. If anything, i should be seeking to promote their good above my own.
