The strong version says that language determines thought and that linguistic categories limit and determine cognitive categories. Most linguists, I think, will say that is kind of absurd. People who speak radically different languages can still share elements of their culture. This shows up in certain kinds of academic leftism, where that never gets out of their libraries.
