The Relationship Between Food Production and Biodiversity Conservation
The World Wildlife Foundation estimated 68% of mammals, birds, fish and other vertebrate species were lost between 1970 and 2016. Agricultural expansion and intensification are major drivers of these losses. The problem has a profound effect on our food systems because biodiversity plays such a central role in them. It will be very hard to hold biodiversity loss without making our agricultural production systems less harmful to biodiversity.
