The illusion of cause is our tendency to see cause and effect relationships when all there really is is a correlation or maybe a secret temporal sequence like one thing happened before another. We're just based on salient examples of where one thing went with another. And again, we are prone to doing this in ways that have become nowadays I think somewhat unadaptive. You know, the one of the classic current examples is the belief that vaccines can cause autism.
In this episode of the You Are Not So Smart Podcast we discuss the illusion of knowledge with Christopher Chabris, co-author of "The Invisible Gorilla." After that, we eat a triple-ginger molasses cookie while discussing non-believed false memories.
