Have We Made Progress?

Life expectancy at birth is greater than 80, and in the world as a whole, it's 71. The rate of child mortality plummeted in the 19th century - even in what we think of today as an affluent, healthy country, Sweden. World is becoming literate: on the order of 80% of the world can read or write. War has been in decline, not to zero; Civil War in Syria was worst war in a generation.
