The 10 Minute Rule - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
The 10 minute rule says that instead of telling yourself, no, you want to tell yourself not yet. It comes out of addiction research that we're starting to understand that addiction is much more complicated than just the chemical we're putting in our body. The brain registers that as relieving the discomfort of wanting something so bad because you told yourself not to do it. So with this step one, there's about a dozen different things you can do.
