The null hypothesis would be unless you have convincing data to make you do what you don't want to do, you probably shouldn't. "My personal perspective and the official perspective of the classically trained scientist would be then you probably ought to bias yourself toward the null hypothesis when all else is equal," he says. He adds that if this effect is real and maybe it is, we looked very, very hard and can't find it.
