Working Examples and Practice Are Not the Only Two Options

I think a mistake that we sometimes make is thinking of worked examples and practice as the only two options. There's a lot of really interesting ways to give independent practice that has elements of modeling from an expert while also giving you a chance to practice some things. It would also be possible you could imagine somebody teaching someone how to swim by like on the side of the pool or on land just asking them to kick stuff like do the kicking motion. That might be a valuable exercise actually but it's not helping you swim. If you're kicking in the water focusing on that ball still doing a meaningful swimming activity that's whole task practice.
