i've always compared steve jobbs's role at apple to that of a movie director. It it's the arbiter of whose taste is it, who's ultimately saying, ok, this is what we should do. I think for a while it was pretty clear that in the 20 11 to 20 15 era, that person was johnny ive right? And that was part of johnny taking, after forestall was ousted, took over the roll of software design in addition to hardware design.
