We're social mammals. We're wired to connect and be together. One of the worst things we can do as social mammals is to be on the outs with a group or with one other person. So when we start to approach conflict, that's at stake. And we'd rather betray ourselves and fit in than possibly speak the truth and then get kicked out of the group.
