The Importance of Level Playing Field in Roguelikes

I think spelunky is sort of the modern evolution of a roguelike even if it looks much different from everything that came before and you know even if it breaks three quarters of the rules all i'm saying is definitions is an inherently political subject like it depends on what your goal is. Is spelunky seen as this way of finally breathing fresh air to people who don't like turn-based games but like that or is that kind of a wack move in terms of paving over this existing community? I just think it's a messy like people have different agendas by labeling things different names so i think i think it's less about ultimately can we all agree whether this spelunky
