The Momentum Shift in Justices' Position on Affirmative Action

In Fisher and Grutter, there was some expectation that racial preferences would be banned. But in both of those cases, Republican appointed judges sort of went through a conversion to more liberal justices. There's just a much broader in-law consensus now, I think, that affirmative action failed.
