I see all human emotion as having some kind of evolutionary advantage if you will. I think the research shows though that shame is highly correlated with many psychiatric illnesses so depression anxiety eating disorders addiction trauma suicide bullying violence. If you're getting a message that is an attack on the self we're gonna get it too, says psychologist David Perry.
