Increasing fruit and veg is clearly related to huge reductions in cardiovascular disease. Each 7 grams a day higher intake of total fibre is associated with a 9% lower risk of cardiovascular disease. A 10 grams of high fibre intake was associated with a 16% lowerrisk of stroke and a 6% lower Risk of type 2 diabetes as well. The reasons why fruit and vegetables might be protective, well, you've got things like potassium, folate, vitamins, fibre, phenolic compounds,. improving those lipoprotein profiles.
