The cumulative effect of micro aggressions is agression. The appropriate answer when someone has let you know that your comment or your behaviour was not appropriate, the the answer then is to thank them for telling you so. Most people are too tired to take on micro russion after micro brussion. They just silently endure them because it's a lot of effort and energy to educate the person. So if some one tells you not to say that to them, the appropriate response is to say, thank you. Go an and figure out what happened,. Just process it on your own with your friends, with allies, and then be done with it. Know that you can do better next time.
