Sally Kohn: One of the things that I started doing was trying to understand breath on an even deeper level and realizing that if I pay more attention, I was still clenching my body. So often when we're in a stressful situation, what the stressful component is, is that we stop attending to our breath. We stop regulating our anxiety. She says pain is a dangerous signal when you react to the pain with fear and preoccupation - which is a perfectly natural and understandable way to react to pain. The book could potentially help people overcome their chronic pain.
