Captain Survives Crashing Into Mountain / Air China Flight 129 Crashes on Approach
Black Box Down
00:00
The Pilot Was Under a Lot of Work Load
Strong southerly winds from 210 degrees with a shallow bank turn delayed the down wind leg entry. The width of the pattern was about one point one miles, when it should have been two nautical miles. Sim tions from this narrow down wind position to the base turn and after consistently showed overshooting the final course. It's assumed that due to the narrow down wind width, it woud have been difficult for the flight crew to confirm the runway visually during or after the base turn.
