The chances that we will accidentally have nuclear use out of the blue are very, very low. But if NATO and Russia ever went to war, both sides would be seeking to blind and confuse the adversary. And our situational awareness depends on those factors. People value losses more than gains in a conflict so you might take a shot to try and redeem yourself.
