The Different Roots of Paralysis in Botulism
Botulism causes a descending paralysis. It starts with your cranial nerves, then travels down and will cause flaccid paralysis throughout no matter the root of entry. The first signs and symptoms are things like blurred vision as the muscles that innervate your eyes become affected. You can also get airway obstruction as the muscles of your pharynx are paralyzed. So whether you have facial palsy depends largely on the dose of toxin exposure.
