I really like the examination of comedy shows comedy situations in your book. Can you talk a little bit about why it's educational and interesting to analyze comedy? Ye, i think friends is full of those kinds of script writers tricks for generating humour that weren't about set pieces or jokes in the traditional sense. They were about breaching what you might expect to happen in a conversation. And soha, it was just perfect to try and get students to see that they're already conversation analists. It's just trying to reverse engineer what's going on here and figure out what all o the rules, the machinery that generates social interaction actually are.
