CNN's John Defterios is a former U.S. Special Forces commander in the Philippines. He worked on two high-profile kidnappings, one of which ended with no ransom being paid. A month later he was called back to deal with another kidnapping and found his negotiator had been replaced by someone who wasn't coachable or would not record their phone calls. The next day they couldn't get into Philippine National Police Headquarters because it was closed for "National Holiday" That holiday allows terrorists to kill hostages without telling anyone about it.
