The Influence of Skepticism on Descartes
Skepticism, stoicism and epicureanism were all hugely important to Montaigne. He didn't devote himself to philosophy in the sense of going on a quest to discover the truth about the world or some sort of interpretation that would be his own. It's because he said so much, so many remarks on so many things that a few of them were bound to coincide with the great wisdom of the ages.
