How to Render Distance Fields Using Sphere Tracing

A sphere would be defined by the distance to its centre point. You could render it as polygons, you know, using marching cubes or some other meshing system. But one common way to render it is actually rather directly on, using sphere tracing or oray martion. It's kind of shoot a ray out from the camera position to the pixtle you're looking at in game.
