Robert Wright on Why Buddhism is True

Philosophy Bites

CHAPTER

What's the Mind or Observer When You Meditate?

Buddhism doesn't allow that to be a self, as it were. There's no enduring self of the hearts of our being. This is a paradox that i think it's hard to escape entirely. One interpretation of the buddha's discourse on not self is that actually, he didn't n it to be a metaphysical assertion that the self doesn't exist. And this is a challenge for people who say they have experienced the full on not self experience - there just is no coherent account that's totally devoid of paradox.
